AIM
To simulate single phase and three phase diode converter using R and RL load, using PSpice.

PRINCIPLE
Single phase full wave diode converter with R load –this circuit is known as bridge rectifier and it is commonly used in industrial applications. During positive half cycle of output voltage, power is supplied to the load through diodes D1 & D2. During negative half cycle diodes D3 & D4 conducts. The peak inverse voltage of a diode is Vm. With a resistive load, load current is identical in shape to the output voltage.
But in practice most of the loads are inductive and load current depends on the values of load resistance and load inductance. Input voltage is given as Vs=Vm sinωt =Vs sinωt.
Load current io = Vs sin(ωt-ө) + A1 e^(-(R/L)t) – E/R
A three phase bridge rectifier is commonly used in high power applications and it gives six pulse ripples on the output voltage. The diodes are numbered in the order of conduction sequences and each one conducts for 120 ͦ. The conduction sequence for diode is D1-D2, D2-D3, D3-D4, D5-D4, D5-D6 and D1-D6. The pair of diodes which are connected between that pair of supply lines having the highest amount of instantaneous line to line voltage will conduct.
PSpice is the proprietary software tool suite used primarily for electronic design automation (EDA). The software is used mainly by electronic design engineers and electronic technicians to create electronic schematics and electronic prints for manufacturing printed circuit boards.

PROCEDURE
1.      Open PSpice schematics from the start menu.
2.      Open new schematics from fileànew.
3.      Place components from components menu.
4.      Wire up the circuit using “wire” from the DRAW option.
5.      Save the schematics.
6.      Set the simulation time from ANALYSISàSETUPàTRANSIENTS, set the stop time to 100ms.
7.      Create netlist by ANALYSISàCREATE NETLIST to check for the errors.
8.      Simulate the schematics.

RESULT
Single phase and three phase diode converter using R and RL load using PSpice was simulated.
